Our Home Office Wallpaper Reveal

Sharing is caring!

Updated: March 2, 2023

I’ve been designing and decorating our dining-room-turned-office for about a year and a half, while working in the same room the whole time. Last week we finished the installation of the home office wallpaper, and it was the chef’s kiss! I included all the details and shared some home office furniture ideas. Let’s see how it all turned out, shall we? Read this entire blog from Chrissy Marie!

Our Home Office Wallpaper + The Room Reveal!

If you’re new here: this room was previously our dining room. The dark grasscloth walls were lovely, but we needed to reconfigure the whole room after my husband and I both began working from home, together but separately! We each work for ourselves and running two small businesses out of the kitchen desk nook, while fighting over who gets to spread out on the dining room table was unorganized, messy, and just an overall YIKES!

Ten out of ten, do not recommend that experience. A room redesign was in order.

The Home Office Wallpaper: Serena & Lily Feather Paper

After much back and forth deciding on wallpapers, Serena & Lily graciously asked to be a part of this design project, so that sealed the deal on their Feather wallpaper. This paper has held my eye for years!

(I already had purchased the other items from Serena & Lily before they reached out to me – because my love for their products runs deep, with or without a blog!) I am so grateful for their help with the paper – you must take a look at their wallpaper selection! Classic, fresh and always lovely.

Home Office Wallpaper Ideas and Favorites:

These are some favorite wallpapers from Serena & Lily that I liked.

Our home office wallpaper is the Feather paper in bone. It’s neutral enough to compliment other patterns and colors in the room. Much more fun and interesting than the plain white walls- while still keeping a lot of the white in the room. It feels organic- it is the wow factor in here!

The Wallpaper Installation

I hired a professional to install the wallpaper because I didn’t have the patience to do it slowly and carefully. If you are looking to install paper yourself, I have a tutorial for installing wallpaper here. I will say – your success depends on the type of wallpaper you have. Some is much more difficult than others.

My installer was done with the Serena & Lily feather wallpaper before lunch time, and said it was great paper to work with!

I have heard that Serena & Lily’s wallpapers aren’t too tough to work with, so that’s good news if you’re considering installing it yourself.

The Partners Desk

We bought this from Wisteria and it’s not longer for sale (RH has a very similar partners desk though). If you are going to share or float your desk in the middle of the room, get a partners desk so that it looks great on both sides! Tip: Make sure the top is smooth – mine is a tad bumpy and I find it annoying to write on.

The two of us never work here at the same time due to our schedules (and who would be watching those 4 kids??), but a little desk would never do! We prioritized a workspace big enough to rganize both of us.

I also love this beautiful partner’s desk from Serena and Lily. White, cane, brass and seasalt – what’s not to love? I considered this extra long desk from Pottery Barn as well.

The Tailored Desk Chair

Beauty and comfort are necessary for a desk chair, and I wasn’t going to sacrifice either one. The Ross armchair with a slipcover is form and function – allowing for comfortable sitting for long periods of time, in high performance fabric.

I owned the Ross armchair for over a year, but needed a new slipcover. I called into Serena & Lily and had a design advisor help me pick out this fabric: the surf stripe in a coastal blue. I wanted feedback on using fun stripes with the pattern on the rug and wallpaper. I adore the tailored chair with the fun mix of prints!

Our Office Built Ins

The brass hardware is unlaquered brass and from Vespa Fine Hardware. This is the Ronan; it is heavy and substantial and would be so lovely in a high end kitchen.

You can read about how we built these cabinets here, hiding our printer, scanner and other office equipment.

Home Office Seating

Create a little nook! We moved our Shore Bench down from our bedroom!

the shore bench

We’ve owned this bench for years and years. I love reusing favorite pieces, but updating them too! Previously this bench featured a dark velvet cushion – lux for our bedroom, but not the right fit for our bright and happy office.

We switched out the velvet with a linen pin stripe cushion – fun and fresh! The color is muted, offering understated beauty.

My kids will swing their legs on the bench and chat with me when they see me typing away. It’s a cute little nook, and I love the contrast of the pinstripe next to our home office wallpaper.

A Home Office Rug: Hillsborough Rug: Performance + Indoor/Outdoor

This rug! I bought this during a 20% off sale and I was so nervous – but it did not disappoint! The motif pattern is ever so slightly distressed to feel like its collected or an heirloom, but not enough to look fake.

The Hillsborough rug is hand knotted with performance yarns, and feels nice on the feet. So far it appears that it will wear well. My dog loves to stretch out under the desk while I work, and his long nails do not pick the flat, durable weave.

It is my favorite rug in our home!

I didn’t use a rug pad but I did hold the rug down with 4 pieces of rug tape along each side (a must).

Our Hillsborough rug sits directly across from the Jute Border Rug in denim that we have in our foyer. For rooms that are open to each other and in the same line of sight, these two rugs compliment each other nicely. The jute is soft underfoot (not plush, but feels nice) and is great quality. Neither rug shed!

Home Office Pendant Lighting

These two pendant lights were not a new purchase – we reused them from two places in our home (our breakfast nook, and over the stairs). They are a tad more rustic than it looks online – the white wood has a coastal, organic feel, and they show some hairline cracks. The light they give off is great!
