Leo’s Coastal and Fun Bedroom Decor

Leo’s room came together so quickly and I couldn’t love it more! I was sad to lose the cactus wallpaper because it was different and fun, but to be totally honest with you I love it SO much more this way. For me, I think it just flows with our home better. When I stepped into Leo’s room before, sometimes the wallpaper would feel jarring. Our home style isn’t eclectic and I wanted to keep his room with the style we have everywhere else: a lot of wood, white and blues and grays. A little coastal.

Also, it should go without saying this room could be for a girl or a boy. It’s not necessarily a coastal “boys room”, it is just my boys room. :)

Enjoy the pics, all sources of items used are listed at the bottom.

A reminder of the before:

This post explains how the wallpaper was damaged and why I had to take it down (and what happens to walls after removable wallpaper comes off!), and this post is from when I first installed the cactus wallpaper. I need to find a fun place for that flag!

After, how this coastal bedroom came together:

All the blues and the grays with the wood… I love these colors. This room is my vibe. Slightly beachy, very relaxed.

We have been pleased with all our Minted framed art pieces we have brought into the home so far. Leo’s one request was for some “space stuff” in this room, and so to me that meant some glow in the dark ceiling stars and a piece of space art that he liked. But I had to like it too- and when I looked around for spacey art I was a disappointed… until I found this piece. I mean, could it be any prettier? It also happens to have his name LEO on it, so that was a lucky coincidence.

I took this picture when we first put the art up. The fact that it’s off center is killing me right now. I might need to retake this shot.

We also are very happy with his bed- he has had that for almost 2 years now and we plan to have him in it for life! It is low to the ground, so this would also work well for a child transitioning out of a crib.

LOVE the rug. Look what a difference it makes with just a little pattern to the room! It is one of the more affordable rugs Crate and Barrel sells actually- it is an indoor/outdoor rug but not scatchy. I’m hoping that attribute makes it more durable.

The paint is half Sherwin Williams Extra White up top, and Sherwin Williams Ice Cube on the bottom. All you need for this effect is a level and painters tape- and if you don’t have a level you can still just eyeball the painters tape. Not tricky. It adds a interest to the walls, not to mention it brings the coastal fun vibe to the room!
