I love lighting like many girls loves jewelry! This is my favorite part of planning a new design. If you find your home feels cold, unfinished or just needs some charm, an easy way to fix that is with beautiful lighting!
Lighting is where I choose to invest with intention. We dove right into these design choices and picked brass pendant lights, brass flush mount lights, brass sconce lights, large black lanterns, and more.
When we built our last home it took me a solid month to pick the lights out. When I totalled everything up, I decided it was too much and started right over from the beginning! And guess know what happened: after picking out “second and third choices”, the overall feel was so lacking I went back to my original choices.
I learned two things from that experience: one being that I really love Visual Comfort – they ‘re pieces just resonate with my taste and elevate a simple space. (This post isn’t sponsored… although it should be!) And 2. I enjoyed our investment in finishing details like lighting even more because I knew they were going to give the home the wow factor! For me, I had to find other places in the home to save.
This time around with our older home renovation choosing lighting took no time, and I had some help to keep me on task. I’ve hired Katie of Betsy Anderson Interiors to help me with part of this renovation and she hammered out the lighting choices with me. Using a designer makes it easy to bounce ideas off of and get the thoughts of a pro. It was a relief to have a second opinion of an expert, especially to help with technical questions like sizing. This time it came down to just a day of looking at lights and saying “let’s keep looking…” or “OMG YES THAT’S THE ONE!”
If you don’t have anyone on your side, I hope this post is helpful and inspires you to invest in beautiful lights for your home.
Lighting We Chose In Our Home: Brass Pendant Lights + More

More Affordable Lighting Options: Black, White + Brass
Each piece is similar to what I picked out.
Crystal Beaded | Wood Beaded | Brass Lantern | Square Flushmount | Double Sconce | White Feather Light | White Sconce | White + Brass Fan | Curved Sconce | Globe Chandelier | Linear 4 light Pendant | 3 Light Lantern | Single Light Lantern | Black Simple Fan | Black + Wood fan | Hanging Lantern
In a well designed home, you’ll notice several kinds of lights at varying heights and of varying finishes. A line of several lanterns is the easiest way to add beauty to a boring hallway, and lead your eye down the room. Sconces are the same: at just at the right spot in a room it can add so much interest!
And since this is Part 1, as you may have guessed we aren’t finished with the lighting for the home. Some rooms just will need to take more time to come together… and some rooms I don’t have the budget to tackle right now. Which means… loads of patience on my end, and future projects for blog readers!
