When it’s my turn to host, what food to serve my guests is an after thought. I am just trying to put pants on all my kids, okay? And get the counters cleared off if I’m lucky. I am not above asking my guests to pick up some take-out on the way here!
We entertained some friends this past weekend and with the holiday mood, it was the perfect opportunity to try out Sprout’s Catering Trays and some of their other easy to prepare foods! Lazy Girls of the world, I got you. It’s not Martha or nothing. I have a some great time saving hacks for you to mimic at your holiday get togethers!
Minimal effort. Cozy Atmosphere. Those are my goals.
We focused our menu on heavy appetizers to keep things simple (for us), but still letting the guests fill up. Sometimes during formal meals it feels as if all the guests are holding their breath. I like the back and forth to the buffet table and the trying of various foods. Serving appetizers lends itself to a flow of conversation between multiple guests. (If, however, you are serving heavier dishes, Sprouts also has centerpiece meats and fully-prepared meals with all of the fixings as an option too!)
Rule #1 for Lazy Girl Entertaining: Keep everything on the menu ready to serve or just in need of heating up. My only job was to heat up the oven and time various dishes!
Sprouts Catering Tray: Signature Cheese Tray
Sprouts Organic Crackers
Sprouts Frozen Margherita Pizza
Sprouts Brazilian Multigrain Cheese Rolls
Sprouts Creme Brulee
Martinis made with Sprouts Blood Orange Italian Soda
Before all the food was prepared, I shopped my house to decorate the table with a few holiday items I had. I like something living on the table but it was not to be found this November. So instead I made a “forest” out of some bristle brush trees. A runner and a stack of real cloth napkins and the table was looking done.
If you’re new to Sprouts’ Catering Trays, it’s an affordable way to look like perhaps you are a Martha. They advised me to place my oder 48 hours in advance. I chose the signature cheese tray- with 5 different types of cheese, all I added was Sprouts stoneground organic crackers on the side.
There is SO much cheese on this plate, the portions are more than generous! The next day my Grandpa came by for an impromptu visit, and I was so happy we had leftovers on the cheese tray. I pulled it out of the fridge for the two of us and felt like high fiving myself!
My husband’s job was to make the martinis because that is his specialty. With only 3 ingredients though, I could have handled this one! He just mixed citrus flavored vodka, the juice of 1 fresh lime, and Sprouts Blood Orange Italian soda together. Strained into martini glasses with a little piece of lime perched on the edge. Scroll to the end for a recipe card to pin.
Blood orange is actually a seasonal winter fruit. I love its deep red color, don’t you? Perfect for the holidays. If you like a tart + bubbly cocktail filled with flavor, this one is for you!
The Sprouts frozen pizza requires little effort. We chose the margherita pizza because I was into those thick mozzarella slices! After it came out of the oven we cut it into mini bites so our guests could treat it as finger foods and put small portions on their plates. I loved the large pieces of basil. Sometimes I add a little salad to the top of my pizza- but nothing was needed here.
The Brazilian cheese rolls were fantastic right out of the oven. You could serve with marinara sauce on the side.
I wanted something sweet served with all those savory dishes. Whenever I am dining out and I see creme brûlée on the menu, I order it. With that in mind, we chose 6 creme brûlées to serve so each guest could have their own to nibble on. Each box has 2 single servings that you pop into the oven to heat. They come in a reusable creme brûlée dish (for you to give your Martha friends after you’re done, so they can make creme brûlée from scratch). I liked being able to serve it right out of the oven without having to transfer anything to a new dish. The flavor was spot on! These are great to give your entertaining a little flair.
We all know it’s really the company that makes the evening a success, but creating a relaxed and easy atmosphere that lends itself to chatting and laughter starts with the host! Don't get so caught up in the details that the planning takes all the fun out of the event...or even worse, causes you to not invite your friends over to begin with. They are there to see you- not to judge what kind of host you are. So relax, give yourself some grace, and make sure you made a martini for yourself!
